Advanced #1: Pro Four Chair Handle

Ball Drill 5 Adv1

Instructions: The player will stand with 2 basketballs in the middle of 4 chairs or cones set up in a square shape. They will begin dribbling with the coach commanding each move. The player will then execute each of the moves commanded by the coach, taking the ball directly in front of them (cross), between their legs (between), or behind their back (behind or wrap). The coach will add the commands of “cross-chop-wrap” while the player is executing the circling of the chairs. The commands, both numbers and moves, will come at an extremely fast rate.

Purpose/Benefit: Coordination, ball skills, reaction time, and footwork will all be challenged with this drill. This drill is great for players looking to move down a position and become a better isolation scorer.

Advanced #2: Triangle Reaction

Ball Drill 6 Adv 2

Instructions: Three cones are placed in a triangle with the back two cones closer to half court, then the front cone, followed by the coach at the top of the key. The player will complete two cycles of making a figure 8 motion around the cones before ending back at the starting point in the center of the cones. The player will then accelerate towards the front cone to make an in-out move. The player will head towards the coach at full speed for commanded move. After the player goes around the coach they will quickly go back in front of the coach for 2nd and 3rd reps.

Purpose/Benefit: This drill is designed for point guards to move and react better in ball screen and late shot clock situations. It greatly challenges the aspects of reading the defense while fatigued and making quick sharp moves.
