Aaron Gray Out of Training Camp Due to Cardiac Episode

Detroit Pistons backup center Aaron Gray is expected to miss most of the team’s training camp, after suffering a cardiac episode.

The incident took place following a voluntary workout in late August — the big man says he’s doing fine now.

Per the Detroit Free Press:

The 7-0, 270-pound center has undergone a full evaluation and is currently seeking additional medical assessments from cardiac specialists to determine a timetable for a return.

“I’m taking a little bit of extra time to gather as much information as possible,” Gray said. “I’m really hoping everything goes well. Once we have all the information we’ll put a plan in place and be off and running. Not only a second opinion, but the episode happened so soon. I’ll do all the tests and wait two to four weeks, do all the test again. The body is responding great right now.”

Head coach and president of basketball operations Stan Van Gundy said Gray would likely miss a lot of training camp, which prompted the team to sign HasheemThabeetto a contract.
