Above the Rim Sponsors Two New York City Summer Leagues

Above the Rim, a division of Collective Licensing International, has announced it will be the official apparel sponsor for two New York City summer basketball leagues, the Watson Basketball Classic and the Hoops By the River Invitational.

The Watson Classic is back for its 12th season of basketball. Held at “Parque De Los Ninos” park, located on the corner of Morrison & Watson Avenue in the South Bronx, the tournament consists of Bronx District 9 youth and adults, New York City elementary through college athletes, AAU programs and professional athletes. The tournament will take place every Saturday and Sunday, starting July 2nd and ending August 13th. There are regularly over 2500 spectators in attendance each weekend.

The Hoops By the River Invitational is also returning this summer for its 3rd season. Played at Thomas Jefferson Park, located on 1st Avenue and East 112th Street in East Harlem, the tournament will feature 26 teams with ages ranging from ten & under to college/professional. It will be held seven days a week, lasting from June 18th to August 13th.

Both leagues home courts, have been refurbished, courtesy of Above the Rim. ATR will also bring out brand endorsed athletes Corey “Homicide” Williams, Martell Webster and Will Bynum for on-court appearances at the tournaments. Marking the end of the summer, the winning teams from each league will compete against each other in order to, not only be named ATR city champs, but also to be sponsored by Above the Rim for the 2012 summer season.

“We are very excited to be partnering with two organizations, which are well established in the community but are still on the rise. We look forward to helping them to continue to grow for years to come,” said Above the Rim brand manager Cesar Vizcarrondo.

The tournaments will kick off in the South Bronx and East Harlem this weekend, and will continue through mid-August.
