Caron Butler Unhappy With Bench Role in Milwaukee

33-year old veteran forward Caron Butler didn’t find happiness when he went back home to Wisconsin. Butler says he’s not thrilled with a backup role on the Milwaukee Bucks. Per the Journal Sentinel:

Butler said after practice Thursday he will continue to assess the situation as the season progresses. And he made it clear he wants to play in the NBA several more years following this season, when his current contract ($8 million this year) expires.

“The information I received before coming here is that ‘You’re going to play a lot,'” Butler said. “And I want to play. I want to be out there to help the situation. If we’re developing on the fly, and I know Giannis (Antetokounmpo) has to play and guys have to play, but OK, there are a lot of ways those guys can play and we can still be out there developing those guys as well.

“Coach (Larry Drew) understands that and I’ve talked to him. He’s been more than helpful, and (general manager) John Hammond and everyone. I know it’s a process and we’ll get through it. We’re not even halfway through the season. Hopefully something turns for the better for the team and myself.”

Butler started for the Los Angeles Clippers last season but platooned with Matt Barnes at small forward and only averaged 24.1 minutes. This season he has started 12 of 23 games with the Bucks and averaged 10.4 points and 4.9 rebounds in 25.0 minutes.
