Cavs Re-Sign James Jones to One-Year Deal

Free agent forward James Jones and the Cleveland Cavaliers have come to terms on a one-year pact worth about $1.5 million, according to multiple published reports.

Jones, 35, suited up in 48 games for the title-winning Cavs last season.

Jones provided veteran leadership in the locker room.

Per the NEOMG:

He played sparingly throughout the postseason, but was still instrumental during the team’s title run, serving as a vocal leader and locker room lieutenant. […] “You guys never see ‘Champ’ complain about playing time, complaining about shots, complaining about anything and he’s probably the most professional guy on our team,” LeBron James said during the Cavs’ victory parade in June.

Jones was the mastermind behind an inspirational replica NBA Finals trophy that was cut into a puzzle made up of 16 pieces, representing each win needed for the real Larry O’Brien Trophy. He was also James’ right-hand man behind the scenes, helping change Cleveland’s culture while bringing valuable championship experience to a young locker room.

Jones, like James, has been to six straight NBA Finals and two with the Cavs. This upcoming season, he will get a chance to make it seven in a row overall. […] “I told J.J., as long as I’m playing, he’s going to be around,” James said earlier this season. “He’s not allowed to stop playing basketball. So I’m going to make sure I got a roster spot for him. I love him. He’s the greatest teammate I’ve ever had.”
