What do you do with Chris Kaman?
Fifty percent of the time, the 28-year-old looks great — a true center with solid footwork, a big body, scoring touch and heart. Another 40 percent of the time, Kaman is injured (over the last four years, he’s missed 111 of a possible 284 games). He spends the other 10 percent of the time transitioning.
His contract ends after next season, and, according to Marc Stein, the Clippers are listening to offers. But they don’t want just anyone. The Clippers want a small forward with a ‘reasonable contract.’
So… what do you do?
“L.A. is saying, at least for now, that it is likely to keep Kaman through the deadline unless moving him results in a clear upgrade at small forward. An upgrade with a reasonable contract, that is.
That presumably rules out a move for the long-term deals of Philadelphia’s Andre Iguodala or Charlotte’s Gerald Wallace. Detroit’s Tayshaun Prince, with an expiring contract valued at $11.1 million, fits the Clips’ parameters better, but the Pistons — despite their longstanding fondness for the former Central Michigan center — could well lack the financial flexibility they’d need themselves to take in Kaman.”
Kaman’s been hurt this year — as he has most years — but, when healthy, he’s as good as any center in the League. His toughness and smarts would likely make him a potential target for other teams as well, including the Thunder and Knicks.
