Dallas Mavericks to Sign Vince Carter

As expected, Vince Carter will soon be a member of the defending champion Dallas Mavericks. Not bad for a guy who was just waived. Per the Dallas Morning News: “Two newly minted Mavericks arrived in town Sunday and were able to watch the evening practice, which included a scrimmage. Vince Carter and Brian Cardinal, both free agents, did not take part in the practice because their paperwork had not yet been filed with the league. Carter will not officially clear wavers until Monday afternoon, which means that’s the earliest he will be able to sign his contract. There have been no complications with the deal and all signs point to a signing Monday. Carter’s deal will be for the mid-level exception, which for the Mavericks will be $3 million because they have nudged into luxury-tax territory. It will go on the books as a three-year deal although years two and three are only partially guaranteed. As for Cardinal, who was part of last year’s championship team but only agreed to a new deal on Saturday, he received a one-year contract believed to be for the veteran’s minimum, about $1.3 million.”
