DeMarcus Cousins vs Derrick Favors: One Guy Is Mad

by October 29, 2010

Cousins is a lot more hyped to go up against Derrick and the Nets than Favors (who might as well have yawned when asked about tonight’s matchup). The Star-Ledger reports: “The Nets’ rookie forward had little to say Thursday about his former AAU and high school rival, DeMarcus Cousins, who he will battle Friday night for the first time as professionals when the Nets play host to Cousins and the Sacramento Kings at the Prudential Center. ‘We’re just two players on different teams, just playing against each other,’ Favors said of his relationship with Cousins, whom he’s known since the eighth grade. The two big men from the South — Favors is from Atlanta, Cousins from Mobile, Ala. — have been linked for years because of the fact both played the same position, and played against each other so often … Earlier this month, in an interview with Yahoo Sports, the 6-11, 270-pound Cousins said he intended to make the teams that passed over him pay for not drafting him. ‘I can’t wait to play them, because I’m going at their necks,’ Cousins told Yahoo’s Marc Spears. ‘Especially the big that got picked before me.’ That, of course, was the 6-10, 246-pound Favors, who Thursday feigned ignorance of what Cousins said about him. He heard from a friend that Cousins said something, but he claimed he didn’t know what, exactly. ‘I don’t look at all that stuff — read (newspapers and magazines), internet, look at the TV — I don’t get into all that,’ he said.”
