Dirk Nowitzki is Not an All-Star, According to Dirk Nowitzki

Dirk Nowitzki’s well-documented struggles this season have led the perennial All-Star forward to determine that he is not deserving of an invite to the mid-season showcase. From the Dallas Morning News: “Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki has played in 10 consecutive NBA All-Star games. He also is coming off a season in which he won his first championship and was named the NBA Finals’ Most Valuable Player. But Nowitzki sounds like he doesn’t expect to be an All-Star this year. He wasn’t voted in as a starter. Those results were announced last week. Coaches vote on the seven reserves in each conference. Those results are scheduled to be announced on Thursday. Nowitzki was asked after [Mondays’s] practice whether he thinks he can make a case for himself for being included in this month’s All Star game in Orlando. ‘Not really,’ he said. ‘I mean, averaging whatever, 15, 16 points, I don’t think you should be an All-Star. But we’ll just have to wait and see. I think there’s a lot of great young talent in this league that deserves to go. I think LaMarcus Aldridge has been stiffed the last couple of years. He’s a great young player, fun to watch. You know Blake (Griffin); and (Kevin) Love is playing great, so there’s a lot of talent at my position. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.'”
