Dwight Howard’s Self-Punishment Push Ups

In case you made it through last night’s snooze-fest between Orlando and Washington, you saw Dwight do some push-ups on the sidelines late in the second half. It’s because he’s a terrible free-throw shooter, and this is how he punishes himself. From the Orlando Sentinel: “A moment many Orlando Magic fans enjoyed on TV Thursday night went unnoticed by  Magic coach Stan Van Gundy. SVG said he knew nothing about Dwight Howard’s push-ups in front of the Magic bench after Howard left the Magic’s 112-83 win over the Wizards with 47.4 seconds left in the third quarter. When Magic beat writer Josh Robbins asked him about Dwight Howard’s impromptu calisthenics, Van Gundy’s reaction was priceless and in midseason form. ‘I don’t have any knowledge of that,’ Van Gundy said. ‘I’m usually more focused with what’s going on on the court.’ … Dwight Howard said his because his teammates were riding him about going 9-19 from the free-throw line. ‘Well, my teammates said I missed too many free throws tonight,’ Howard said. ‘They were all talking about how my form was great on my jump shot, but on my free throws it wasn’t as great. So, they kind of clowned me with that.'”
