Dwyane Wade on Pat Riley: ‘If You’re Not With Him, You’re Against Him’

by November 10, 2016

Dwyane Wade and Pat Riley have yet to communicate since the superstar guard left Miami this summer, and with his first game back in South Beach as a member of the Chicago Bulls on deck tonight, Wade says he understands the cold shoulder from his old head coach and team president.

Wade understands Riley’s hyper-competitive mentality and doesn’t hold it against him.

The future Hall of Famer hopes for a warm reception from the Heat faithful in his return.

Per the Chicago Tribune:

“I know who Pat is — it’s no secret to me,” Wade said after Wednesday’s morning shootaround at Philips Arena before the Bulls’ game with the Hawks. “If you’re not with him, you’re against him. That’s just the way he is. You have to understand that, man.

“I’m cool with it. I’m fine, 100 percent. I was there 13 years. I’ve seen a lot of video tributes. I’ve seen a lot of players come in and go out. And I’ve seen the way he has responded to them. And I know if you’re not with him, you’re against him.”

Wade returns to Miami on Thursday for the first time as an opponent in the second of back-to-back games for the Bulls. He knows the night will be emotional. Wade also knows it will be competitive. […] “I’m trying to beat their butt,” he said. “And they’re trying to beat our butt.”
