Five-Star Shooting Guard Devin Booker Commits to Kentucky

by October 31, 2013

Son of former NBA player Melvin Booker announced this afternoon that he will take his sharp-shooting skills to Lexington (KY) next fall, joining Karl Towns and Tyler Ulis in next year’s incoming freshman class. From the Courier-Journal: “The University of Kentucky basketball team added one of the nation’s premier shooters to its 2014 recruiting class on Thursday afternoon with the commitment of four-star Mississippi guard Devin Booker, who announced his decision during a gathering at his school, Moss Point High. The 6-foot-5 Booker chose the Wildcats over Missouri, where his father, Melvin, was a former player, Michigan and Michigan State. He’s a native of Michigan whose mother still lives there. Booker is UK’s third pledge in the 2014 class, joining four-star point guard Tyler Ulis of Chicago and five-star center Karl Towns Jr. of New Jersey. Ulis and Booker are good friends who made official visits to UK at the same time last month and attended the Wildcats’ alumni game at Rupp Arena. Kentucky has been considered a favorite to land him ever since. Booker averaged 29.7 points per game last season as a junior at Moss Point. He is an exceptional spot-up shooter but also a good scorer off the dribble and has good athletic ability.”
