Florida Guard Kasey Hill Out With Ankle Injury

Florida starting point guard Kasey Hill injured his left ankle last night, and will miss at least a month of action with a sprained ankle.

Hill, a freshman out of Montverde Academy, was averaging 10.3 points, 4.3 assists and 2.3 steals on the season prior to going down. His loss leaves the Gators without a true point guard for the foreseeable future. It is expected that shooting guard and leading scorer Casey Prather will now take the team’s duties at the point, with 6-8 forward Dorian Finney-Smith also contributing.

From The Orlando Sentinal:

UF coach Billy Donovan said Hill will miss at least a month due to the injury.

“It’s unfortunate,” Donovan said. “It’s a part of the game”

With 18:04 remaining Florida lead 37-20, Hill hit the court with a thud and screaming in pain. He was fouled hard by Southern’s 6-foot-9, 250-pound Javan Mitchell during the play.

“He was screaming in pain,” senior center Patric Young said. “I was trying to calm him down … getting him to breath.”

The loss leaves the Gators critically short of ball handlers. The team’s usual backup point guard, Scottie Wilbekin, has been suspended for a violation of team rules all season.
