Grizzlies GM ‘We Are Going to Re-Sign Mike Conley’

by April 22, 2016

Mike Conley will be one of the most coveted free agents this summer, and according to Memphis Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace, the 28-year-old isn’t going anywhere.

The Grizz lost Conley to a season-ending achilles injury prior to the postseason, and appear doomed in their first round Playoff series against the mighty San Antonio Spurs.

No matter, these Grit & Grinders aren’t ready to throw in the towel just yet.

Per the Commercial Appeal:

(Vince) Carter hopes his teammates can use that energy constructively and get back in the series with a Game 3 victory Friday night in FedExForum. He’s expecting the Griz to be loose and limit the mistakes they made in Games 1 and 2 at the AT&T Center. […] “At the end of the day, it’s easier to come out here and play basketball because nobody is expecting us to win anyway,” Carter said. “I like the fact that it bothers everybody. … That means guys care. That’s the first step and then we’re putting the work in and watching film. Game 3 isn’t any different than Games 1 and 2. Now, we’re trying to protect home court.”

Carter leads the Griz in scoring with 10 points per game. Memphis is shooting 35.8 percent in the series.

Griz forward Matt Barnes expounded on his going to a “gunfight with spoons” comment from Tuesday night. He said the Griz will throw spoons, forks, knives and can openers at the Spurs in Game 3. […] “Pride is huge,” Barnes said. “We still think we have enough to steal a game or two here and make it interesting.”
