Hornets, Monty Williams Hoping to Keep David West

They know West is likely to test the free agent waters this summer, but Monty is hoping he’s done enough to keep David in town. From the Times-Picayune: “He’s earned the right to choose and I’ve talked to him about that on a few occasions,’ Williams said. ‘I’ve tried to show him how diligently I work and prepare so he’ll want to come back here. For us to be in position to keep him is a good thing, but there are going to be teams that come after him. But the cool thing is he knows what we represent and understands where we’re going. He’s going to be the flagship leading us there.’ Williams said West may be the best draft pick in their franchise history. New Orleans selected West as the 18th overall pick in the 2003 draft. West leads the Hornets’ with an 18.7 scoring average and scored 32 points against the Boston Celtics last Saturday. ‘No question, he’s made me look better at coaching than I should look with the way he handles his business and plays on the floor,’ Williams said.”
