Josh Smith Says $6.9 Million Salary Will Be ‘a Little Harder on Me This Year’

by July 27, 2015

A big deal was made about free agent forward Josh Smith taking less money to join the LA Clippers this summer, and the big guy says he’ll have to be more judicious with his finances going forward.

Smith agreed to a one-year, $1.5 million deal with the Clips, but the Detroit Pistons still owe him $5.4 million … so we can safely assume that Smoove’s family won’t be going hungry anytime soon.

In 55 games with the Houston Rockets last season, the 29-year-old Smith put up 12.0 points and grabbed six boards a night.

Per a salty Orlando Sentinel column:

At an introductory press conference with the Los Angeles Clippers Tuesday, he pointed out how the next year is going to be a financial challenge.

“At the end of the day, you know, I do have a family,” he said. “So it is going to be a little harder on me this year. But I’m going to push through it, you know.”

Sitting on stage with Smith Tuesday was DeAndre Jordan, who caused the biggest stink of the NBA summer when he backed out of his commitment to Dallas and returned to the Clippers. […] “I made a decision for me and my family,” he explained.
