Update: Lakers to Bench Andrew Bynum for Game 4?

With his bum knee limiting him in Game 3 of the WCF (2 points, 0 rebounds, in 7 foul-plagued minutes), Phil Jackson hinted that he might sit Young Andrew out tomorrow night. From the Daily News :”Lakers coach Phil Jackson said he would consider benching center Andrew Bynum for a game in order to give his wonky right knee a rest. Bynum said he didn’t know what the benefit would be since only surgery can cure what ails him. Bynum scored only two points on 1-for-1 shooting and grabbed just two rebounds in 71/2 foul-plagued minutes in the Lakers’ 118-109 loss to the Phoenix Suns in Game 3 of the Western Conference finals Sunday night. ‘He was ineffective tonight,’ Jackson said. On that point, Bynum agreed. ‘I was ineffective,’ he said. ‘That’s obvious.’ Asked about Jackson’s suggestion that it might be time for Bynum to rest, the 7-foot center raised his eyebrows and then shrugged before saying, ‘That’s not going to do anything. The surgery will do something. It doesn’t make sense. ‘No, I don’t feel like it would help,’ he added.”

UPDATE: According to J.A. Adande, Bynum will play in Game 4.
