Lakers to Fix Screw Up of Shaquille O’Neal’s Retired Jersey

by April 04, 2013

In an otherwise wonderful jersey retirement ceremony for Shaquille O’Neal on Tuesday night, the Los Angeles Lakers botched one key element: O’Neal’s name was stitched across the front of the shirt instead of the back. Whoops! The team says they’ll correct the error quickly. Per the LA Daily News: “Lakers fans will have to retake their pictures. The Lakers featured O’Neal’s name stretched across the front of a Lakers jersey instead of the back. ‘We will get the new jersey and put it up as soon as possible,’ Lakers spokesman John Black wrote in an email. Black then added, ‘hopefully we can get it done in about a week or so.’ O’Neal’s jersey has a V-shape neckline associated with the front instead of a more rounded one for the back reserved for the others hung around Staples Center, including Lakers legends Jerry West, Wilt Chamberlain, Elgin Baylor, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, James Worthy, Gail Goodrich and Jamaal Wilkes.”
