UPDATE: Marc Gasol Has Sprained MCL, Out Indefinitely

UPDATE: Marc Gasol has a Grade 2 MCL sprain of the left knee, per USA Today. There was initial concern that the injury was a complete tear, but MRI results confirmed that the injury was a sprain and does not require surgery. Gasol is out indefinitely.

Marc Gasol left the game in the second quarter on Friday with a non-contact injury to his left knee. Initially diagnosed as a knee strain, Gasol may actually have a “Grade 2 MCL tear,” according the 3 Shades of Blue. He is scheduled for an MRI on Saturday. USA Today recounts the injury:

Center Marc Gasol, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, left Friday night’s 102-86 home loss to the San Antonio Spurs early in the second quarter after spraining his left knee.

A team official told USA TODAY Sports that an MRI has been scheduled for Saturday.

On the play, Gasol established defensive position against the Spurs’ Aron Baynes down low and appeared to buckle the knee before hobbling off the court in pain. He did not return.
