Medora To Air March 31 on PBS

Back in November, SLAM was invited to check out Medora, a documentary about a small town in Indiana and its high school basketball team that was riding a 44-game losing streak. Taking a look at the town’s struggles with poverty, drug and alcohol abuse, absentee parenting and basketball, Medora provides a glimpse into formerly thriving industrial parts of America that have failed due to the economic collapse and outsourcing of jobs. For more on Medora and its trailer, check out the information below from the folks behind the film:

In Indiana, where life revolves around high school basketball, what happens to a community when their beloved team can no longer win a single game? Medora follows the down-but-not-out Medora Hornets varsity basketball team over the course of the 2011 season, capturing their stories both on and off the court. Riding a brutal losing streak when the film begins, the team’s struggle to compete bears eerie resemblance to the town’s fight for survival. An in-depth, deeply personal look at small town life, Medora is also a thrilling, underdog basketball story and an inspiring tale of a community refusing to give up hope despite the brutal odds stacked against them. Directed by Andrew Cohn and Davy Rothbart, Medora premieres on Independent Lens, on Monday, March 31, 2014, 10:00-11:30 PM ET on PBS.
