‘Melo Might’ve Fractured His Hand

by Marcel Mutoni

Well, this can’t be good.

Bad news coming out of the Mile High City, as the Nuggets (who are off to their best start in franchise history, by the way) could be forced to play without the services of one Carmelo Anthony for a while.

From the Denver Post:

Right now, you got to be concerned because you don’t really know what’s going on,” said Anthony, who suffered the injury when Jeff Foster slapped his hand on a third-quarter shot attempt.

“I didn’t have any feeling whatsoever. Out there it was just numb. I shot that free throw — airball. . . . It’s just sore and stiff right now, and I’m pretty sure it’s going to hurt like heck tomorrow.”

Asked to guess, Anthony’s coach, George Karl, said Denver’s leading scorer could be lost for weeks.

Of course, nothing definitive about Melo’s status will be known until he meets with a hand specialist sometime today; already playing with a troublesome right elbow, the only thing Anthony and his teammates can right now is pray for good news.
