Michael Jordan Told Draymond Green to ‘Go Get the Record’

After the Golden State Warriors made history Sunday night with a 92-86 road win in San Antonio, All-Star forward Draymond Green revealed that Michael Jordan had told him a little while back that he’s rooting for the Dubs to break the legendary 1995-96 Chicago Bulls’ record for regular season victories.

MJ joked that he’d blame Green should the Warriors come up short.

Only the scrappy Memphis Grizzlies stand between Golden State and a new entry in the annals of NBA history.

Per the Bay Area News Group:

“Go get the record,” Draymond Green said, smiling as he recalled what Jordan told him during All-Star festivities in February. “Y’all don’t win this record, I’m going to be hot, and I’m blaming you.”

Warriors coach Steve Kerr, who holds the distinction of being a part of both 72-win teams, said half-jokingly that most of his former Bulls teammates from the famed 72-10 squad will “mutter expletives under their breath.” Around the time Kerr spoke, Scottie Pippen and Ron Harper tweeted their congratulations to the Warriors. […] “I’m pretty lucky,” Kerr said, shrugging and smiling. “Really. Just to play next to Michael and Scottie and Dennis (Rodman) and play for Phil (Jackson), and then from here inherit this whole group in Steph (Curry) and Klay (Thompson) and Draymond and Andre (Iguodala) and everybody else as my first coaching job. Pretty good draw.”

Curry finished his evening with four 3-pointers to give him 392 on the season and then tightly held onto the game ball. […] “The one thing I learned from last year as we won the championship is don’t throw the ball if something good happens,” said Curry, who had tossed that one high in the air in celebration only to see Iguodala come away with the catch and the keepsake.
