Mike D’Antoni Calls Amar’e Stoudemire’s Claims ‘Mind-Boggling’

by January 04, 2013

In his initial remarks after being told of Amar’e Stoudemire slamming him about a lack of defensive coaching, Mike D’Antoni was quite classy and deftly played off the charge. When asked about the issue again today, the Lakers’ head coach was considerably more honest, and displayed his annoyance. Per the LA Times: “It’s mind-boggling. I mean, come on,’ D’Antoni said. ‘He threw Frank Johnson, myself, Alvin Gentry and actually Mike Woodson … was he saving the good stuff? Because he coached him eight months and he was the defensive coach. It doesn’t make any sense.’ […] D’Antoni was Stoudemire’s head coach for more than 8½ seasons in Phoenix and New York. ‘If he’s learning, great,’ D’Antoni said. ‘That would be super. It just boggles the mind.'”
