NYC Mayor’s Cup Basketball All-Star Games

New York City (March 29, 2011)— NYC & Company, New York City’s official marketing, tourism and partnership organization, today announced that four new sports will be included in the 2011 NYC Mayor’s Cup, a series of high school athletic events that span the year and allow New York City student-athletes to earn the title of “Best in the City”. New this year are competitions for high school basketball, cricket and softball in June and soccer in the fall bringing the total to thirteen sports. The NYC Mayor’s Cup also includes the largest wheelchair basketball tournament in the Northeast.

To kick-off the series, the first-ever NYC Mayor’s Cup basketball all-star games will be on Sunday, April 3, showcasing the City’s best male and female high school basketball players from the Public School Athletic League. The games will be played at CCNY’s Nat Holeman gym located at 160 Covent Avenue at 136th Street in Manhattan. The women’s game begins at 1:00 p.m. followed by the men at 3:00 p.m.

“The NYC Mayor’s Cup is a unique series of sporting events in New York City with thousands of student-athletes participating last year,” said George Fertitta, CEO of NYC & Company. “With these four additional sports and a new Facebook page we hope to reach a broader audience of students, parents and those that are generally interested in NYC sports. We encourage all the sports fans throughout the five boroughs to come out and watch some of the best athletic competition in New York City.”
