Paul George Wants To Meet French Gymnast Who Broke His Leg at Olympics

Over the weekend, French gymnast Samir Ait Said broke his leg in a grotesque injury during an Olympic qualifying round. According to a report from USA Today, Team USA member Paul George wants to meet with Alt Said and offer words of encouragement.

George experienced a similar horrifying injury during a 2014 Team USA scrimmage in Las Vegas. The Pacers star landed awkwardly coming down from a lineup and suffered a compound fracture of the right tibia and fibula, an injury that sidelined him for almost all of the 2014-’15 season. George returned to his All-Star level of play last season, as he averaged a career-high 23.9 points per game.

The rings specialist became a world-wide sensation this weekend when he shattered his left leg on a landing after completing a vault in the men’s team qualifying. The break was audible in the arena, and subsequent video and stories went viral. He underwent surgery late Saturday to repair a broken tibia. In a video posted this morning on Facebook he vowed to return to competition for the Tokyo Games in 2020. He had qualified for the individual finals in the rings prior to his injury on the vault.
