Providence’s Ricardo Ledo Ruled Academically Ineligible, Will Miss ’12-’13 Season

Top freshman recruit Ricardo Ledo can still attend Providence and practice with the team, but he will not be eligible to play in any of their games for the upcoming season. The news comes after the NCAA announced that the 6-6 All-American wing was ruled academically ineligible.  From the Providence Journal: “White smoke has arisen from the NCAA’s headquarters in Indiana and it’s mixed news for Ricky Ledo and Providence College basketball fans. The NCAA’s ruling allows Ledo to be on scholarship and practice with the Friars but not play in games in his freshman season. Ledo began classes at PC this week and all indications are he’ll remain at the school under the no-games restriction and play for the Friars in 2013-14. The NCAA cannot comment on eligibility rulings. Providence College coach Ed Cooley said Ledo “is in good spirits. He’s appreciative of being here but he knows he has work to do. This is a great opportunity for Ricky.” PC fans were certainly hoping to get Ledo, a West End native who is rated among the top 25 prospects in the prep class of 2012, on the court this season. The 6-6 guard is rated by some scouts as the best pure scorer in the high school class and was a lynchpin in a PC recruiting class that was rated among the top 10 in the country.”
