Ricky Davis Lands in China

Ricky Davis, he of one of SLAM’s most unique features ever, apparently has landed in China (and so has former Celtic Jerome Moiso). So says our friends at NiuBBall.com:

Ricky Davis has a problem: He can’t use chopsticks.

This wouldn’t be a big deal if he was playing in the NBA, or Europe, South America or pretty much anywhere else in the world.  But, as some of you already know, R.D. ain’t playing in any of those places this season.  He’s playing in China with the Jiangsu Nangang Dragons.

Fortunately for him, they have plenty of forks and knives in in the People’s Republic. But, for Davis and Jerome Moiso, his other ex-NBA teammate playing for Jiangsu this year, there’s plenty of things the city of Nanjing doesn’t have, with central heating, clean air and fast internet at the top of the list.

For now, though, in his third day in Nanjing, Davis is soaking it all in as best he can.  I say “best as he can,” because as he he told a reporter from the Modern Bulletin yesterday, he hadn’t slept during a two day journey to the city that was delayed because of heavy fog on the runway.

He called Nanjing “beautiful,” expressed remorse about the Chinese termed “triple-double situation” when he was in Cleveland, shared that old teammates Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce frequently played poker with each other in the States, and admitted that his inability to use two sticks to eat food is his first real problem so far.

And then there’s his three goals for the upcoming season: Winning a title, winning league MVP, and taking home the scoring title.
