Sources reveal to SLAMonline that Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony recruited Josh Howard during the offseason to play in The Big Apple.

Anthony called Howard multiple times, according to sources, to convince the former Wizards forward to join the Knicks’ frontcourt as Anthony’s backup.

The two had lengthy conversations about the possibility of teaming up in New York, sources revealed. “Melo wanted him to come to New York real bad,” one source said.

If the move came to fruition, Howard would likely have come off the bench as Anthony’s backup and played the shooting guard position down the stretch.

But the Jazz offered a potential starting gig and the opportunity to reunite with former Mavs teammate Devin Harris.

Sources also confirm that Howard and Harris worked out in Dallas together numerous times during the lockout.
