Top-25 Recruit Shaquille Goodwin Picks Memphis

Georgia’s top prospect Shaquille Goodwin is now off the market after announcing on his Twitter page earlier today his intentions of playing for head coach Josh Pastner next fall. From The Commercial Appeal: “The first day of the early signing period isn’t until Wednesday, but already the University of Memphis has received some welcome news on the 2012 recruiting front. Decatur (Ga.) Southwest Dekalb High senior forward Shaq Goodwin, a 6-8, 245-pound five-star power forward prospect, confirmed by text today he has committed to Memphis. “I just felt like it was time,” Goodwin said in a text this morning. A few minutes earlier, Goodwin, whom ESPNU rates the No. 19 overall prospect in the Class of 2012, tweeted the phrase “memphisbound” from his Twitter account. Goodwin, a two-sports star at Southwest Dekalb who has stated he plans to play both basketball and football in college, also considered Arizona, Florida, Georgia and UCLA. He made an official visit to Memphis for Memphis Madness on Oct. 14, and afterward rated the visit a “10” on a scale of 1-10 in an interview with The Commercial Appeal. Goodwin’s commitment is Memphis’ second for 2012. Mouth of Wilson (Va.) Oak Hill Academy wing Damien Wilson (6-6, 190), whom ESPNU ranks the No. 63 overall prospect in 2012, committed to the Tigers last May.”
