Tristan Thompson Not Attending LeBron James’ Voluntary Cavs Team Workouts in Miami

Last week, we told you that LeBron James was gathering Cavaliers teammates for workouts down in Miami before real training camp begins. Kevin Love, JR Smith and Iman Shumpert are there. Even Kyrie Irving is in Miami to hang with his teammates, though he’s still rehabbing.

We know this thanks to LeBron’s Instagram post on Saturday:

One notable guy who’s missing from these workouts? Tristan Thompson.

It’s not that he doesn’t want to hang out with his teammates. But see, Thompson is waiting on a new contract from the Cavs, and since he doesn’t have one, he’s decided not to join his teammates just yet—even in an unofficial capacity.

More details, from ESPN:

Tristan Thompson, who is embroiled in a contract dispute with the Cleveland Cavaliers, will not attend LeBron James’ voluntary training camp in Miami, according to a report by the Northeast Ohio Media Group.

Thompson, a restricted free agent seeking a long-term deal, and the Cavaliers broke off contract talks in July, and the stalemate became more contentious last month when Thompson’s agent said his client would not return to Cleveland after this season if forced to accept a one-year qualifying offer.

Due to the impasse between the sides, Thompson has decided to skip James’ camp, which begins Saturday, according to the Northeast Ohio Media Group.
