Anthony Davis Chooses Kentucky

by Ryne Nelson

Davis, often considered the No. 1 player in America, joins SF Michael Gilchrist and PG Marquis Teague in what already looks to be yet another landmark class for Coach K CAL (sorry for the typo earlier today) in 2011.

From ESPN:

Chicago Perspective senior forward Anthony Davis has committed to Kentucky.

Davis was an unknown before the spring due to lack of exposure, but burst on the scene after showing off a rare versatility for a player his size while playing with Illinois-based MeanStreets. […]

Davis was recruited by nearly every top program in the country and decided on the Wildcats over DePaul, Ohio State and Syracuse.

‘Coach [John] Calipari is easy to talk to and he listens to what you are saying,’ Davis told ESPN’s Paul Biancardi. ‘[Calipari] will be a father figure to me away from home. He’s a demanding coach that will not tell me what I want to hear, but what I need to hear to improve.’

Obviously, Coach Cal is bringing in talent at a never seen before clip, at least in the era of high school rankings –three of the top 5 players in the Class of 2011 already will be in Lexington next season.

If freshmen Stacey Poole and Doron Lamb stick around for a sophomore campaign, and SLAM diarist Quincy Miller commits to UK, the ’11-12 Wildcats should be favored to win it all.
