Report: Incoming Kentucky Freshman Guard Jamal Murray was Offered Over $1 Million to Play Overseas

While the trend of high profile recruits opting for Europe instead of college isn’t as prevalent as many initially thought it would be when Brandon Jennings made the bold move in 2008, the most recent case should be considered a success. Emmanuel Mudiay, who last year decided to go pro in China instead of playing at SMU as he initially had announced, was selected by the Denver Nuggets with the seventh pick in last month’s NBA Draft.

As for this year’s incoming freshman class, no one has opted for such move (yet), but according to Hoops Hype Canada, five-star Kentucky freshman guard Jamal Murray was offered a seven-figure salary to play professional basketball overseas next season. The 6-4 Canadian reclassified into the class of 2015 just a couple of weeks back and is expected to make up one of the nation’s top backcourts with the help of returning sophomore guard Tyler Ulis and incoming five-star freshman guard Isaiah Briscoe.
