Jalek Felton, Top 10 Sophomore & Nephew of Raymond Felton, Commits to North Carolina

There will soon be a new Felton rocking the Carolina blue in Chapel Hill thanks to Raymond Felton’s nephew, Jalek, announcing his intentions on Tuesday night of joining the Tar Heels in 2017. The younger Felton, a 6-3 explosive combo guard from Mullins, South Carolina, is highly regarded as a top-10 national prospect in the sophomore class. Last year as a freshman, he averaged 21.9 points, 6.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists, leading Mullins High to the region 8-2A championship. According to MaxPreps, he’s averaging 29.2 points this season, including outings of 48 and 51 points in December.

Jalek Felton has decided where he is going to attend college.


The Mullins sophomore verbally committed to North Carolina on Tuesday. The Tar Heels offered him back in November during a visit. Mullins played Northland (Ohio) in the Beach Ball Classic on Tuesday afternoon.


Felton informed UNC coach Roy Williams of the decision Tuesday morning. He also was drawing interest from, South Carolina, Kentucky, Kansas and Georgetown.


Felton says he still plans to take his visits. The earliest Felton is allowed to sign is in November of 2016.


“I talked to Coach Williams (on Monday),” Felton told the Sun News following Tuesday’s game against Northland. “He came out here to watch Luke Maye. We talked a little bit and I decided (Tuesday) was the day.” 


If Felton stays committed, he will play at the same school where his uncle Raymond Felton played from 2002-05. Raymond Felton was a first-round pick of the Charlotte Bobcats in 2005 is playing with the Dallas Mavericks.
