Sixers’ Paul Reed Collects 2020-21 G League MVP, Rookie of the Year Awards

It’s only been a few months since the Philadelphia 76ers selected forward Paul Reed with the 58th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft but he’s already making a name for himself.

A two-way signing by the Sixers, the DePaul product racked up both the G League MVP and the Rookie of the Year awards on Monday; an impressive feat even if Reed had started the season on everyone’s radar.

Playing for Philadelphia’s official G League affiliate the Delaware Blue Coats Reed made an immediate impact with his athleticism and versatility. The 21-year-old averaged 22.3 points, 11.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.8 blocks while shooting .588 percent from the field and .444 percent from 3-point range while leading the Blue Coats to their first postseason appearance in franchise history.

Unfortunately, the Blue Coats fell just short of winning the 2021 NBA G League championship, losing to the Lakeland Magic (97-78) on Mar. 11 in a single-elimination tournament. Reed would tally a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds while adding three assists, three steals and three blocks, but shot just 1-8 from 3-point range.

After an outstanding campaign with the Blue Coats in the G League bubble, Reed could find himself significantly closer to a rotation spot with the 76ers should the opportunity arise.
