Amare on His Future, Possibly Outside of Phoenix

by Marcel Mutoni

It seems that practically everyone is frustrated in Phoenix these days. Guys are having a tough time adjusting to the new system, and some are loudly wondering if they’re playing in the right city – none more so than Amare Stoudemire.

STAT was asked to clarify comments published last week about his free agency in 2010, and Amare did not shy away from them in the least.

From the East Valley Tribune:

When told that fans have taken his words to mean he is eyeing a move out of Phoenix, Stoudemire said: “I have no idea. I have no clue. It will play out how it plays out. Nostradamus is long gone, and there is no one else who can predict the future right now. You never know how it ends up.”

Does that mean he has no preference when it comes to staying or leaving? “No, I really don’t,” he said. “I just want to win. I just want to win. I’m just trying to improve as a player. As a team, we’re trying to get better. That’s the main focus right now, to improve.”

I don’t think there’s any doubt that Phoenix will give Amare whatever it is that he wants two years from now; with Shaq presumably gone by then, and Nash well into his career downslope, the Suns will unquestionably be Stoudemire’s team.

What remains to be seen is if Amare will want to stick around once he gets what he desires.
