Becky Hammon To Coach Spurs’ Summer League Team

Spurs assistant coach Becky Hammon will coach the Spurs’ summer league team in Las Vegas.

Hammon, the NBA’s first female full-time assistant coach, will be the first woman to serve as the head coach of an NBA summer league team.

From the Express-News:

Becky Hammon, who made history last season as the NBA’s first full-time female assistant, has been tabbed to coach the Spurs’ entry in the Las Vegas Summer League later this month.

“I’m excited,” Hammon said in an interview with the Express-News on Friday. “I think it will give me a chance to grow as a coach. I want to work on getting our guys better. It’s got to be about them.”

The Spurs summer league squad — which is expected to include second-year forward Kyle Anderson, second-round draft pick Cady Lalanne and 2011 draft pick Adam Hanga — held its first workout Friday afternoon.
