Blake Griffin Apologizes for Breaking His Hand in a Fight

LA Clippers All-Star forward Blake Griffin issued a written apology Tuesday night, explaining that he broke his right hand—resulting in an injury that will sideline him for 4-6 weeks—in a tussle with a friend who works for the team.

Doc Rivers seems to believe that Griffin will be out for longer than the provided timeline.

The 26-year-old was on the mend from a partial quad tear.

Per the OC Register:

Rivers called that timetable “unrealistic” in his opinion. According to Rotowire injury analyst Jeff Stotts, the average player misses 17 games with a fourth metacarpal fracture. […] Griffin, a leader on the team and one of their best players, also could be subject to suspension by either the Clippers or the NBA.

According to a spokesperson for the Toronto Police Department, no reports naming Griffin had been filed as of Tuesday afternoon.

“This is a distraction,” Rivers told reporters before the Clippers’ win in Indiana. […] “We have to figure it out because we are in a tough conference,” Rivers told reporters. “We’ve kind of clawed our way up to the spot we’re in right now. We have to keep clawing.”
