Can Rick Carlisle Vindicate the Jason Kidd Trade?

by Marcel Mutoni

For Dallas Mavericks observers, there are two schools of thought when it comes to evaluating the Jason Kidd trade from New Jersey. One blames how it turned out last year on the fact that Jason is no longer the player he used to be; the other insists that Avery Johnson was quite simply the wrong coach for a Kidd-anchored team.

For the time being, Mark Cuban’s organization is going to side with the latter, and expect new coach Rick Carlisle to prove them right.

From the Dallas Morning News:

They are referring to new coach Rick Carlisle. But they also believe the transition from Avery Johnson will show an earlier change – trading for Jason Kidd – was a smart move.

“One thing that Rick wants to do now is give guys more freedom and run – and have a secondary break that doesn’t have a lot of pre-ordained moves.”

Time to show and prove, Rick. And hey, listen, no pressure.
