CJ McCollum Says Current Trail Blazers Could Win Championship

The Portland Trail Blazers are heading into next year with the same star backcourt of CJ McCollum and Damian Lillard that they’ve had for years, and McCollum believes that they’re still capable winning an NBA Championship.

In an interview with Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer, McCollum says that the current Blazers roster could absolutely win an NBA Championship.

“I think whenever we step on the court, we have a chance to win a championship,” McCollum says. “If you don’t have that mindset and that mentality, then you shouldn’t play.”

The future of the Blazers has an air of uncertainty heading into the 2021-22 season, after an offseason of rumors surrounding both Lillard and McCollum potentially being traded out of Portland.

Nothing has come of these rumors so far, and it currently looks as though both of them will remain on the team for the start of the season.

The Blazers finished sixth in the Western Conference last season, with a record of 42-30, and were eventually bounced out of the NBA Playoffs in the first round by the Denver Nuggets. Portland has only managed to get past the first round once out of the past five years.

Now under new head coach Chauncey Billups, the Blazers will look to prove McCollum right in the 2021-22 season.
