Giannis Antetokounmpo: Future With Bucks ‘Depends on What Decisions They Make’

Should Giannis Antetokounmpo decide that he doesn’t want to sign an extension with the Milwaukee Bucks this offseason, the back-to-back MVP will become the most coveted free agent in 2021.

Antetokounmpo recently said that he won’t request a trade, but that’s not to say his mind won’t change or he wouldn’t leave in free agency.

In an interview with Swedish outlet Aftonbladet, Antetokounmpo left his future with the Bucks in question (H/T Alexander Nilsson of HockeyNews.se):

There are a lot of rumors. Everyone has opinions. But at the end of the day, I will do what is best for my family. I do not see why I could not be in Milwaukee for several years.

“As long as Milwaukee and I are on the same page when it comes to being one of the best teams in the League and winning championships, that’s fine. When it changes, it will not be good.”

Antetokoumpo made it clear that he prioritizes championships over sentimental attachment to the Bucks franchise, who drafted him in 2013.

Nonetheless, Milwaukee now knows that one condition that they must fulfill in order to keep the potential future face of the NBA in town.

“It depends on what decisions they make. If they make the right decision, I’ll be there for many years. If they do not, we’ll see. The NBA is business and we take it day by day. Hopefully we can succeed together.”
