LeBron’s New Running Mate: J.R. Smith?

by Marcel Mutoni

LeBron James must’ve liked something about J.R. Smith’s brief time in Vegas, in which Smith was part of the group of players brought in to practice against the stars of Team USA as they prepared to head off for the Beijing Games.

J.R. must have done something to impress LBJ because there’s a report out of Cleveland claiming that the Cavs are interested in acquiring the services of the high-flyer with an, ahem, questionable attitude.

From the Plain Dealer:

The Cavs are talking to Denver about restricted free agent J.R. Smith, and they should go after him hard…The Cavs have plenty of expiring contracts, which should help Denver if it continues to want to keep payroll under control.

It’s no secret that LeBron is in desperate need of another scorer on his team, with all apologies to Wally World. If the report is to be believed, the Cavs are clearly banking on the fact that Smith has matured enough over the summer to make a valuable contribution.
