Links: You Lie!

by Lang Whitaker

I spent all day yesterday in airports, shuttling back and forth between New York City. This meant I spent about three combined hours exposed exclusively to airport television, which meant I was subjected to a steady stream of news coverage, which meant I was subjected to about 3,000 reports on Rep. Joe Wilson’s outburst during Pres. Obama’s healthcare speech on Wednesday night.

If you somehow missed it, while Pres. Obama was running down some of the details of the healthcare plan that he’s proposing, the topic of government-funded healthcare for illegal immigrants came up. Obama said, “The reforms I am proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally.”

And Rep. Joe Wilson, who you might be shocked to learn is a Republican, yelled out, “You lie!”

Rep. Wilson apologized immediately afterward, but now he’s trying to raise money from it because he’s under attack from the liberals. I assume he means the liberals in the media, like all the wild liberals at Fox News, the New York Post, the Wall Street Journal, etc.

While sitting around at LaGuardia yesterday, I was thinking about possible future careers for Rep. Wilson in case the attacks from the liberals should end up causing him to seek a new career path. And I came up with a great possibility for Rep. Wilson: NBA Writer! He could spend the rest of his life in press conferences, calling people out on things they say. The actual veracity of their statements? Who cares! That’s the beauty of it. As soon as he yells at them, the attention shifts to him.

So I put together a little video this morning of what a future with Rep. Joe Wilson, NBA writer, might be like…
