Marc Gasol Out Weeks With Hamstring Injury

The Toronto Raptors, no stranger to injury problems so far this season, will be without veteran center Marc Gasol for a period of weeks, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.

Gasol injured his hamstring in Toronto’s Wednesday night victory, left that game and did not return.

Gasol has had a quiet year with the Raptors so far in 2019-20 but he’s a significant part of the team’s rotation and a vocal defender. Gasol was acquired by the eventual 2019 NBA champions mid-season last year.

While Gasol’s timeline, “a period of weeks”, is vague, it’s fortunate news for a team that could have been fearing even worse. In Gasol’s absence, the Raptors will turn to big man Serge Ibaka – who missed 10 games with his own injury earlier this year.

Reserve Chris Boucher will also get an increased role, just as he did when Ibaka was sidelined.
