Miami Heat’s Bam Adebayo to Undergo Surgery for Torn UCL

The Miami Heat released an injury update Wednesday afternoon revealing that All-Star big Bam Adebayo has suffered a torn Ulnar Collateral Ligament (UCL) in his right thumb during Monday’s 120-111 loss against Denver.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Adebayo will undergo surgery this weekend, and the timetable for his return could be anywhere in the ballpark of four-to-six weeks. During Monday’s 120-111 win against the Nuggets, Adebayo put up 24 points, 13 boards, and six assists.

Toward the end of the matchup, Adebayo was seen holding his right thumb with a painful facial expression, but when asked if he had injured himself, he claimed to be “alright.”

Adebayo’s absence will be a big hit for Miami, who is currently tied for the third spot in the East with a 13-8 record. The 24-year-old has averaged 18.7 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 3.2 assists this season through 18 contests.
