NBA Announces Changes to Current COVID-19 Health and Safety Protocols

The NBA has had strict rules regarding COVID-19, requiring all members of the league to adhere to their health and safety protocols amid the Coronavirus pandemic. However, in light of mass Coronavirus vaccinations, a loosing of those rules is on the horizon for some.

According to ESPN’s Baxter Holmes, league personnel who are “fully vaccinated” — and two weeks past their final dose — will receive “expanded benefits” from the league. Teams where more than 85 percent of the players and staffs are fully vaccinated will be eligible for these benefits as well.

Players and staff who are fully vaccinated will no longer have to quarantine following exposure to COVID-19; can visit the homes of friends and family; and dine-in at restaurants.

In addition, vaccinated individuals will also no longer have to take daily COVID-19 tests, a process that’s been receiving public backlash from some players and coaches this month.

Fortunately, the NBA has started see players receiving the vaccine in waves; notably those that the New Orleans Pelicans and Atlanta Hawks.

According to the Center for Disease Control, over 115 million doses of the vaccine have been administered across the United States, and over 40 million Americans are fully vaccinated.
