NBA Exploring Avenues to Hold 2021 All-Star Game in March

NBA fans may just get a 2021 All-Star Game after all. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the NBA and National Basketball Players Association have been discussing scenarios that would allow them to hold the event on March 7.

Atlanta, where Turner Sports’ headquarters are located, is under consideration as a potential host site. Should the 2021 All-Star Game be hosted in Atlanta, the league will provide support for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and COVID-19 relief, an idea heavily supported by Phoenix Suns point guard and NBPA president Chris Paul.

Originally, the NBA didn’t plan to host an All-Star Game this season due to concerns created by the Coronavirus.

However, because the Tokyo Olympics will potentially be cancelled, the league now has a realistic opportunity to host the All-Star Game before the second half of the schedule is released.

The New York Times’ Marc Stein reports that the NBA will institute All-Star voting regardless of whether or not there’s an All-Star Game.
