NBA Exploring In-Season Tournament With $1 Million Prize

The NBA is one of the most popular professional sports leagues in the entire world. With an 82-game regular season and exciting playoff bracket each season, the best basketball players around the globe put on a show for fans.

Over the past few years, the NBA has considered ways to make each season even more exciting. Most recently, they implemented a play-in tournament at the close of the regular season, allowing more teams a chance to make their way into the postseason.

As first reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic, the NBA is now discussing having an in-season tournament during future seasons, with $1 million per player in prize money. This concept was discussed on a Competition Committee call on Tuesday as a way to enhance future seasons.

While this hasn’t been finalized or implemented, this is just the next step the NBA is taking towards making every season more exciting. This would also give players that make less money an opportunity to make an amount that actually means something relative to their contract. Additionally, some of the bottom teams in the league would have the chance to shock the league as a dark horse.

Over the next few years, expect even more interesting ideas from the League in terms of season structure.
