Nuggets Assistant Wes Unseld Jr. to Interview for Magic Head Coaching Job

The Denver Nuggets have been one of the best teams in the NBA over the past three seasons, and due to that success, opposing teams are beginning to circle the coaching staff.

According to Mike Singer of the Denver Post, the Orlando Magic have requested an interview with Nuggets’ associate head coach Wes Unseld Jr.

Unseld Jr., the son of NBA Hall of Famer Wes Unseld, has served as an assistant coach in the NBA since 2005 and previously was an assistant coach for the Orlando Magic from 2012-15.

In 2015, Unseld Jr. joined the Nuggets coaching staff, and prior to the 2020-21 season, he was promoted to associate head coach.

Unseld Jr. was interviewed for various head coaching vacancies last offseason, including with the Los Angeles Clippers and Chicago Bulls.

Wes Unseld, Unseld Jr.’s father, was an NBA legend during his time in the league in the 1970s. Unseld played 13 seasons in the NBA, making five All-Star games and winning both MVP and Rookie of the Year in 1968-69. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. He, unfortunately, passed away in June of last year.
