Popeye Jones’ Son Destined for the NHL?

Former NBA journeyman (and current New Jersey Nets assistant coach) Popeye Jones seems to have passed on his athletic genes to his son Seth, who is apparently quite the hockey player. From USA Today: “Team USA’s Seth Jones seems like a slam dunk to become an NHL player, an interesting development considering that his father Popeye Jones played in the NBA. Popeye was a 6-8 power forward, and his son is a 6-3 two-way defenseman who has been impressive at the U.S. National Junior Evaluation Camp going on now in Lake Placid, N.Y. Word is that the NHL scouts are fascinated by Jones, who won’t be eligible for the draft until 2013. ‘He reminds of me of Erik Johnson to a degree,’ said USA Hockey assistant executive director Jim Johannson. ‘He is just an all-around solid player.’ Jones skates well. ‘He’s the real deal,’ Johannson said. ‘Good instincts in all areas and he plays the game in all zones.'”
