Report: Executives Think Miami Heat Are Primed To Add A Superstar

The Miami Heat have been excellent this season and, although down 3-1 to the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals, still have a shot to win a championship.

Regardless of what happens, the Heat seem to be in one of the best positions in the entire league. According to Kevin O’Connor of the Ringer, front office executives around the league believe the Heat have become the league’s top destination for the next star with a wandering eye.

After the 2020-21 season, Miami is set up to potentially only have $50 million in guaranteed salary on its books, giving them enough cap space to sign a max player while also retaining their current core.

It’s worth mentioning that the free agent class that offseason could be one of the best we’ve seen in a while, headlined by guys like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kawhi Leonard, Rudy Gobert, Paul George, Jrue Holiday and Victor Oladipo.

Additionally, even outside of free agents, it’s believed that with Miami’s financial flexibility and assets that could be traded, they could be a top destination for a disgruntled star who demands a trade. With the excellent core they currently have comprised of Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro, Kendrick Nunn and others, the Heat are already one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference.

If you add another star to their roster, they could be the best team in the NBA down the road. It also helps that they have an excellent head coach in Erik Spoelstra who has a successful history of coaching some of the NBA’s top players.
